Breast Cancer Awareness Month observed at ACCF Hospitals

On the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, various awareness programmes and screening sessions were organised at the seven ACCF hospitals to extend support to people affected with breast cancer and to create awareness on prevention and early detection. Distinguished guests from district headquarters, self-help groups, Village Organisations, ASHA workers, Anganawadi workers, students, doctors and nurses had participated in the programmes.

In Barpeta, an awareness session was organised with District Social Welfare Anganawadi workers in the presence of Child Development Project Officer (CDPO); at Kawaimari Health and Wellness Centre in Darrang, an awareness programme was organized where the gathering was trained on self-breast examination and emphasis was laid on the importance of mammography; Dibrugarh Cancer Centre in collaboration with Lions Club and Red Cross Society – Dibrugarh, organised awareness programmes and screening sessions for women in Dhinghula and Pub Banipur Goan; at Dibrugarh, a sensitization session was organised on common symptoms and risk factors of breast cancer; an awareness rally was organised by Kokrajhar unit in collaboration with Helena and Guide Basumatary GNM School. Flagged off by Ms Varnali Deka, IAS – DC, Kokrajhar, along with Mr Aditya Bora - ADC Kokrajhar – the rally aimed to educate, empower and give hope to every woman; Lakhimpur unit organised an awareness programme in collaboration with Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) at Boginadi Development Block, besides - a walkathon was held for creating awareness; at Tezpur unit a rally was organised and it was flagged off by Mr Deba Kumar Mishra ACS - DC Sonitpur, in the presence of ADC Health, District Social Welfare. Breast Cancer survivors were felicitated in the programmes and Pink Ribbon campaigns was held where pink ribbons were distributed to beneficiaries.

Breast Cancer is curable, if detected early. To facilitate early diagnosis, Assam Cancer Care Foundation hospitals provided free mammography for women above 45 years in the month of October. Mammography facility is available at affordable rates in all seven ACCF hospitals at Dibrugarh, Barpeta, Jorhat, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, Darrang, and Kokrajhar.
