his basic needs? Would he die in a hospital bed, alone and helpless? Or
would he die at home, surrounded by his family but without medical
care.
A CRY FOR HUMANITY
We Assam cancer care foundation COP team of Baksa wanted to help. We
wanted to find a way to get him treatment, to ensure that he didn’t feel abandoned.
But the truth is, there are too many like him, too many poor souls trapped between
disease and poverty, too many families forced to make heartbreaking choices.
Cancer is a battle that requires strength, support, and resources. But for the poor, it is a war they
are often forced to fight alone. But now people can get better treatment through CSR funds.
As we watched the man leave, his shoulders hunched under the weight of his fate, we couldn’t help but
wonder—how many more lives would be lost, not because of cancer, but because of the cruel hands of poverty?
Finally, after several attempts of counselling done by cop team of Baksa, Mr. Deka got convinced to go to BARPETA
CANCER CENTRE for better treatment.
This is not just his story. This is the story of countless others. And unless we, as a society, step forward to bridge the gap
between healthcare and poverty, these stories will continue to be written in tears and suffering.
Cancer is merciless, but poverty is even more unforgiving.
