anti-cancer medicines in a specialised outpatient

treatment without overnight hospitalisation, helping them
maintain routine, comfort and quality of life.
Before treatment begins, doctors assess the patient’s
overall health through blood tests, liver and kidney function
tests and other required investigations. This helps confirm
whether the body is ready for chemotherapy and allows
concerns to be addressed in advance.
Counselling is an important part of day care chemotherapy.
Patients and caregivers are guided on what chemotherapy
involves, possible side effects, infection prevention,
nutrition, hydration, medicines, warning signs and
emotional support. Clear communication helps reduce
fear and prepares families for safe care at home.
Nurses play a central role in this process. They verify patient
identity and treatment protocol, monitor vital signs before,
during and after chemotherapy, educate patients and
caregivers, ensure safe handling of cytotoxic medicines
and provide counselling and emotional support.
Safety is maintained through personal protective
equipment, correct labelling and storage of medicines,
prompt management of spills or adverse reactions, and
strict infection prevention practices. Doctors, nurses and
pharmacists work together to ensure safe preparation,
administration, monitoring and patient education.
