Habibul, already exhausted by illness, heart
disease, diabetes and grief, chose not to undergo
surgery. Respecting his decision, doctors
continued treatment and he received six cycles of
chemotherapy. The family faced heavy expenses
and emotional strain, but they did not give up.
When Cancer Care
Comes Closer
When Lakhimpur Cancer Centre became
operational, relatives and local well-wishers
encouraged the family to continue treatment
closer to home. Under the care of
Dr Suryakanta Acharya, Habibul began a new
phase of treatment that included radiation
therapy, oral chemotherapy and regular
chemotherapy sessions.

Tanjita became the quiet strength of her father’s
treatment journey. She accompanied him to
hospitals, managed reports and medicines, stayed
beside him through chemotherapy and supported
him through moments of uncertainty. Her sisters
also stood firmly by the family, offering constant
support.
Slowly, his pain reduced and his health stabilised.
The farmer who once feared his life was coming to
an end began smiling again. Today, by the grace
of God, timely medical care and the dedication of
his daughters, Habibul Hussain is medically fit and
living a normal life.
His story is not only about cancer. It is about
poverty, grief, treatment access, family sacrifice
and the extraordinary strength of daughters
who refused to let their father face illness alone.
Sometimes the greatest courage in healthcare is
found beside the hospital bed, in the hands that
continue to hold on.
