ancer is a complex disease characterized by the uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells within the body.
CThese cells, unlike healthy ones, divide and multiply rapidly, forming a tumour that can invade surrounding tissues and
spread to other parts of the body through the bloodstream or lymphatic system. Cancer’s impact is far-reaching, affecting
individuals, families, and communities on a global scale. The emotional and financial burden of cancer treatment can be
immense and the disease can have profound effects on physical and mental well-being. Despite the challenges, significant
progress has been made in cancer research and treatment, leading to improved survival rates and a better quality of life for
many cancer patients. The causes of cancer are multifaceted and not fully understood, but they are generally attributed to a
combination of genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors. Genetic mutations can predispose individuals to certain types
of cancer, while environmental exposures such as tobacco smoke, radiation and certain chemicals can damage DNA and
trigger cellular transformation. Lifestyle choices, including diet, exercise and alcohol consumption, can also play a role in
cancer development. Cancer treatment typically involves a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and
immunotherapy. Surgery aims to remove the tumour, while chemotherapy and radiation therapy use drugs and radiation to
kill cancer cells throughout the body. Immunotherapy harnesses the body’s own immune system to fight cancer cells, offering
