INTO THE LIGHT
t was raining as we reached Satyam Old Age Home.
IUnlike other days, when we would set up camps at
rural health centers with wide open fields, this location
required navigating steep steps carved into the earth
from the main highway. Moss covered the slippery,
rain-slicked path, demanding slow and careful steps.
At the end of the descent, a small straight path led to
the entrance of the old age home. Beside it, a beautifully
maintained garden greeted us.
As we arrived, a group of elderly residents, mostly
women, greeted us with faces lighting up in a mix
of curiosity and quiet anticipation. Even a white cat
seemed to join in the welcome.
The home was managed by a benevolent man dedicated
to social welfare, who regularly organized medical
camps for the benefit of the community. After a pleasant
conversation with him, we introduced ourselves to the
residents. Our District Coordinator gathered everyone
in the hall, and we began the screening process.
