A 42-Year-Old
Woman’s Battle with Cancer
n June 18, 2024, the COP team from Tezpur conducted a breast
Ocancer screening and awareness program with a women’s group in
the community. During the session, we trained participants on self-
breast examination and shared information about breast cancer
awareness and screening. Among the attendees was an Anganwadi
worker.
A week later, this worker performed a self-breast examination and
discovered a lump in her left breast. Concerned, she visited our KIOSK
Breast Screening Centre at the Tezpur Cancer Centre a week or two after
her discovery. During the screening procedure, we confirmed the
presence of the lump. I then escorted her to our General Duty Medical
Officer, Dr. Krishnapriya Banerjee. After an evaluation, Dr. Banerjee
confirmed that the tumour was growing aggressively and urged the
woman to begin treatment immediately.
Upon learning about her condition, she was overwhelmed and broke
down, worried about the financial burden of cancer treatment. Coming
