Health workers discussed the dangers of tobacco, the benefits of regular check-ups, and the early signs of cancer. Children
performed skits and displayed posters with slogans like “Say No to Tobacco” and “Early Detection Saves Lives.”
A COMMUNITY TRANSFORMED
Mr. Baruah’s journey ignited change in his village. More people began seeking medical check-ups, and tobacco use declined as
awareness grew. His sons pledged to spread awareness in neighboring villages, while his grandchildren educated their peers
about cancer prevention.
“This fight is not just my own,” Mr. Baruah said one day. “It’s a fight for all of us—to protect future generations.”
THE ROAD AHEAD
On January 9, 2025, Mr. Baruah began radiation therapy to eliminate remaining cancer cells. While the treatment is physically
and emotionally taxing, his unwavering resilience continues to inspire those around him.
