n a small village of Balajan, situated at Kokrajhar district, there
Ilived a women name Sophibala, aged 42 years, one day while taking
shower she noticed lump on her right breast. At first, she ignored
it, thinking it was not a major issue. But after a week, lump started
causing pain. So, she informed her husband and he insisted her to go
to the nearest sub centre. She went to the CHO of her area who referred
her to district hospital. She was examined and was suspected of breast
cancer by the doctor who referred her to Kokrajhar Cancer Centre for
further examination and proper consultation. She underwent biopsy
test and was found positive for breast cancer.
The doctor explained that her cancer was in its early stages and
could be treated with surgery and chemotherapy. As the surgery was
expensive and was unable for them to afford, they started Sophibala’s
treatment using traditional methods.
Rumours spread about her disease. Some believed her disease was a
