A TURNING POINT
During this challenging period, the team decided to visit Jahanara at home.
What they encountered was heartbreaking. Bedridden, frail, and barely able to
speak, Jahanara was in critical condition. Her daughter, overwhelmed and ill-
equipped, revealed that she had been rinsing her mother’s wound with plain
water and dressing it with cloth rags, worsening the infection.
The sight of Jahanara’s condition—a severe tumor spreading across her cheek
and mouth—was a sobering moment for the team. They immediately sprang into
action. Removing the unhygienic dressing, they cleaned her wound and applied
proper care. Following an oncologist’s advice, they stabilized her condition with
saline, injections, and pain management.
The team also taught her daughter proper wound care, counseling her on the
importance of consistent medical attention. Gradually, Jahanara began to feel
some relief and, for the first time in months, agreed to return to DCC.
THE FIGHT CONTINUES
On the day of her scheduled visit, transporting Jahanara proved to be another
challenge. The family struggled to carry her across nearby train tracks, unable to
use the flyover due to its steep incline. With persistent encouragement from the
team, they finally managed to get her to DCC.
Although initially diagnosed at a curable stage with recommendations for
surgery, delays due to financial and logistical barriers allowed her condition to
