goal of palliative care is to enhance the patient’s comfort, dignity, and overall well-being during the journey of their illness.
Feeling a sense of community is essential for emotional well-being and social support, especially during challenging times
such as dealing with illness or personal struggles. Here are some ways to foster a sense of community, whether you’re a cancer
patient or supporting someone going through this experience.
Feeling a sense of community often involves connecting with others on a deeper level, finding shared values and participating
in activities or spaces where you feel seen and supported.
After I joined ACCF as a palliative nurse, I got to experience about different types of
cancer cases prevalent in the community.
As a part of my job, when I went for community visit, I came across a patient who was
suffering from fever and pain. So, I advised her to consult a doctor after which she got
diagnosed with Breast cancer. Later, she underwent chemotherapy and radiation which
made physically weak and fatigued. As a result, she missed her last 2 chemotherapies.
During my home visit to her place, I tried to counsel her. I advised her to eat healthy so
that she could gain her strength and continue with the treatment. My duty gives me a
chance to become a torchbearer for those who seek help while being under the grudges
of cancer.
